About Esther

During the time of the Babylonian captivity of the Jews during 600 BC, Esther was a young Jewish girl who was chosen by the Babylonian king to be his wife. Without knowing of her Jewish heritage, the king was taken by her beauty and personality. Esther saved her people from extermination at the hands of her husband's cruel advisor, Haman, by revealing her heritage. The book of Esther in the Bible's Old Testament/Torah tells her story which is celebrated with the Jewish holiday of Purim. Along with Ruth, Esther is one of the only women to have her own book of the Bible.
