About Eggs

Although chickens produce the most commonly thought of egg, especially in terms of human consumption, a lot of other birds and even fish and turtles lay eggs. Eggs, when hatched, result in a given species offspring. Birds usually sit on their eggs to keep them warm and incubated while their young grow to a fully formed stage. Eggs that are taken directly from the mother creature and do not grow are used for food and in food products. Cakes and pastries often use eggs in their batter and eggs are served a number of ways -- from hardboiled to sunny side up -- and are a great alternative to a protein source that doesn't include meat. (Although vegans do not eat eggs, as they are still an animal byproduct.)
