About Ducklings

Baby ducks -- little bundles of fuzz -- are known as ducklings. Like most birds, they are hatched. While they don't fly very far, unlike most birds, ducklings swim almost from birth, following around their mother duckling in a line. They are born with a soft coating of down that eventually molts into waterproof feathers much like their fully grown parents. Their bills -- or beaks -- elongate over time, as do their necks, morphing from a smaller, much more compact little creature into a duck or swan when fully grown.
