About Dreamgirls

Originally a Broadway musical loosely based on the meteoric rise of Diana Ross and the Supremes, Dreamgirls was made into a film in 2006 starring Beyonce Knowles and Academy Award Winner Jennifer Hudson. The story follows an all-girl singing from Chicago during the 1960s. Conflict arises when the group's manager ousts the plus-sized Effie from the lead singer position of the group and makes her a back-up singer for the thinner, more commercially viable Deena. Some of the most memorable songs from the show include "Dreamgirls," "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," made famous by the original Broadway Effie, Jennifer Holiday.

Dressing up as Dreamgirls

Go solo or as a trio with costumes inspired by the movie and musical Dreamgirls. Start with the Dreamgirls wig made of black synthetic hair styled in a bouffant, teased '60s style that hits to roughly chin length. Look elegant and dramatic with a Dreamgirl costume gown in white trimmed in royal blue with beading and a sweetheart neckline held up by thin, spaghetti straps.
