About Drag Queens

Men who dress up in women's clothes for performance art, particularly in the gay community, are known as drag queens. While a lot of drag queens are female impersonators, borrowing noted fashions, makeup and wigs to emulate such fabulous, female figures like Cher, Barbra Streisand, Mae West, and Marilyn Monroe among others -- copying their mannerisms and performing as these legends; there are also drag queens who have created their own larger-than-life lady personas. Usually seen wearing exaggerated false eyelashes, glittering sequin gowns, and elaborate wigs, some of the most famous drag queens of all time include John Waters' muse, Divine, RuPaul, and The Lady Bunny.

Dressing up as a Drag Queen
