About Detective

A detective is a form of investigator either in the private sector or for the police agency in the area. Private investigators or PI’s are not usually referred to as detectives, but they are one and the same. A detective whether in fiction or real life is someone who solves a crime. To become a detective a person must first be a uniformed officer for the police for 1 to 5 years. There is usually a written test to pass. Police academy is also needed for a person to become a detective. For a private investigator courses in law and police work are needed, but they don’t have to go through an official police academy. They can go through a college or even an online course that is accredited. A test for the PI is also warranted in order to get a license. Fiction often skews the real essentials for becoming a detective. However, Sam Spade is one of the most common fictional detectives.

Dressing up as Detective

Whether you want to be Sherlock Holmes or Doctor Watson there is a costume for you in the detective realm. A detective costume will vary depending on what type of PI you want to be. For Sherlock Holmes you can expect a brown cloak or trench coat with a magnifying glass. For Sam Spade you might expect a trench coat, cigar, and casual business clothing. You also have sexy detective costumes for women. The costumes come in adult and children’s sizes, and most often the accessories are sold separate from the main costume.
