Davy Jones was the name used by sailors for centuries to describe an evil spirit of the sea, referring to the bottom of the ocean floor as "Davy Jones' Locker." In the film, Pirates of the Caribbean, Davy Jones was a man cursed by the goddess Calypso before she was bound in human form to sail the seas on a cursed ship, transformed from a man into a squid-man hybrid. A hopeless romantic, Davy Jones' heart was locked away, the key to holding power over him. Wow. No wonder why he was so cranky!
