Dalmatians are well muscled and medium in size. They are known for their endurance, which is one reason they have been race dogs and are often the mascot of fire departments. Their fur is short, and they will not shed a great deal. Dalmatians first came to be known in 1792, when Bewick created artwork based on the dog. Dalmatians have been portrayed in a number of movies. Often movies with a “fire” theme have a Dalmatian mascot. However, the most popular movie is 101 Dalmatians. It was also a book. 101 Dalmatians has been an animated movie and live action. The animated film had a sequel called 102 Dalmatians.
