"Crikey! He's a beaut!" Steve Irwin was the Crocodile Hunter, not so much a hunter of the large, swamp-dwelling long-snouted reptiles with sharp teeth, but more of an appreciator of wildlife. He hosted an educational television show that ran from 1997 to 2004 along with his wife, Terri and hailed from Australia where he was viewed as a national hero. Steve Irwin died at the young age of 44 while filming a special with his daughter, Bindi, after being struck in the chest by a large stingray in 2006. Australia and the world mourned his passing.
