About Civil War

A civil war refers to a war between two factions in a given country without any outside interference. The American Civil War is perhaps one of the most famous civil wars in world history, pitting the Northern Union states against the Southern Confederate States who wished to cecede from the Union. The war lasted from 1861 to 1865 and was considered the bloodiest war ever fought on American soil, often with brother against brother. One of the main issues of the Civil War revolved around the abolition of slavery. The Southern, agriculture-based states wished to keep slavery to help their plantations and crops flourish. President Abraham Lincoln opposed slavery. The war finally ended in 1865 with the North winning the war and maintaining the Union, as well as abolishing slavery.
