About Circus

Traveling from town to town, a roving troupe of clowns, jugglers, acrobats, tightrope walkers, animals and their tamers, the circus is a display of the unusual performed inside a large tent setting, sometimes referred to as "The Big Top." The circus dates back to ancient Rome with the Circus Maximus, a large circular forum featuring daredevil acts. It evolved over time and was revolutionized in America in the 1800s by P.T. Barnum who added a freakshow to the animal attractions, acrobats, and clowns. Today, touring troops like the Cirque du Soleil have elevated "the entertainment of the people" to a nearly high-art form.

Dressing up as Circus

Like clowns streaming out of a tiny car, the possibilities for circus costumes are endless! With any number of zany acts to choose from, you can costume yourself as anything from a colorful clown to a circus strongman.
