Cinderella has moved through time as many fairy tale characters have. Disney has been able to keep the story in the forefront for a lot of children. Cinderella was written by Charles Perrault in 1697. This was not the original in this line of story however, the oldest story of a girl like Cinderella dates back to 1st century BC with a tale of a Greco Egyptian girl. While the stories differ somewhat the thought is the same. Even China had their own character of the Cinder girl. The story we hear today is based on the fairy godmother tale and the price ending in true love. Grimm in the 19th century adapted the Perrault version creating a more horrific tale not suitable for the younger children. From the various tales movies have been created in Hollywood as well as Disney. We are still seeing the story retold every few years with a new twist that is often more modern than the last.

Dressing up as Cinderella

Cinderella is depicted in two outfits in the fairy tale. There is her normal dress as servant rags or the elaborate ballgown. Most of the costumes you will discover online will be the gown made of white material, or even blue. The skirt is often full with a tight bodice typical of gowns from the 17th century. In the movie Cinderella’s hair is topped with a sort of crown and of course no costume is complete without the glass slippers. When making the costume you have a choice in material as well as style. If you don’t wish to make the costume there are plenty of versions available online and Cinderella wouldn’t be complete without her Prince. There is also the fairy godmother costume and pumpkin carriage that could make perfect costumes as well for the entire theme.
