About Cheese

A healthy snack or accompaniment to food dishes, cheese is one of the world’s most enjoyed food items. Cheese is made from the proteins and fat of milk. The milk can come from a cow, buffalo, goat, or even sheep. The milk is coagulated to get the protein casein. During the process the milk is acidified and it will go through an enzyme coagulation. Eventually the product created is a harder substance than the milk. It is a solid in other words. During the pasteurization process cheese can mold. In fact aged cheese will go through a molding process making the taste more tart or bitter. There are a number of different types of cheese, though Americans either eat American or Cheddar Cheese. Mozzarella, gouda, sharp cheddar, white cheddar, Australian cheddar, Goat Cheese, and many others exist. Some are yellow, while others are white in color. France is well known for having hundreds of different kinds of cheese. Cheese can be in a spread, block, or round block. It can come covered in wax or not. Cheese is used with cheese burgers, mac-n-cheese, to top crackers, in sandwiches, and on pizza.

Dressing up as Cheese

The variations of cheese and dishes it is used for helps us find plenty of costume options for children and adults. The top three costumes are Mac-n-Cheese, Cheeseburger and a slice or block of cheese. Cheese hats are another option very popular in Wisconsin. The Mac-N-Cheese costume is a bowl that sits on the waist, which is filled with fake macaroni noodles and cheese. The Cheeseburger has a top and bottom bun with the hamburger patty, cheese, tomato, and lettuce in the center. If you wish to be a little original you might choose a pizza slice or go all out and have a platter of cheese! The platter can be a dinner plate option filled with cheese, crackers, and even some slices of meat- all made from fabric of course.
