About Cha Cha Cha

A Latin American form of music and dance, the cha cha cha originated in Cuba thanks to composer/violinist, Enrique Jorrin. Its name is derived from the beat structure of the music, as well as the shuffling footwork of the dance step. As with most Latin dances, hip-movement is the basis of the Cha Cha Cha. These hip-movements result from the bending and straightening of the knees in time to the music, shifting the weight from the back to the front, thrusting the pelvis for a saucy sort of dance. The Rhumba is a distant cousin both dance-wise and musically of the Cha Cha Cha. This sort of dance is frequently performed on such ballroom-dance shows as "Dancing with the Stars" by both the celebrity competitors and their professional ballroom partners.
