About Caveman

The caveman is a popular rendition by Hollywood and others of what the Neanderthals or Paleolithic Homo sapiens really looked like. The caveman is supposedly mostly covered in hair and acts a lot like the apes. They are supposed to be pre-human like in speech with only grunts and charade like actions to get their point across. Most of our portrayal of the caveman in movies, novels, and television shows has been based on inaccurate information given about the men of those days. Usually with cavemen and women you see the men running around with clubs while the women stayed in the caves cooking the meat and being there for their men. Cavemen and women were actually able to hunt, gather, and find shelter when needed to protect themselves from the elements as well as the predators. They didn’t live with dinosaurs, but well after that time period.

Dressing up as Caveman

Most of the caveman costumes are going to show a very hairy face. The beards, hair and even the skin might be more akin to the Werewolf in some costume depictions. Choosing your costume will depend on how accurate you would like to be with history or how hairy you want to be. There are costumes for the Caveman in all sizes as well as beards and wigs. The typical costume is an animal print in either a loin cloth or a tight fighting toga or dress style. The men usually have one shoulder covered and nothing on the feet. Cavewoman generally has a similar style dress with the leopard print or animal print. The cavewoman is generally less hairy than the male. Some additions to the costumes can be bone jewelery, clubs, and ankle bracelets. Fake teeth are also commonly used as accessories.
