A high-ranking bishop, a Cardinal is a Catholic Church elder. A council of these elders who dress in formal red robes indicative of their station reside in Rome and are responsible for choosing which cardinal becomes Pope in the event that the current Pope dies or abdicates his position. Additionally, each Pope has a diocese or arch-diocese that he ministers to as part of his sacred duties.

Named for these crimson robed priests, a bird known as a Cardinal has a large crest on its head and brilliant red plumage with a black beak. These beautiful birds primarily eat seeds and reside in North and South America.

Dressing up as a Cardinal

Every Pope needs an entourage!
