About Captain America

One of the most celebrated and beloved of all superheroes, Captain America was the original "Super Soldier." Making his first appearance in 1941 and created by the legendary Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, Cap had his humble beginnings as the ailing young man, Steve Rogers who was given an experimental serum by the United States government during WWII. This endowed him with superhuman strength which he used to help the United States in their war effort.

Years later, Captain America became a symbol for freedom and justice, one of the few truly heroic characters in the Marvel Universe who never had an ulterior motive and was well-respected by even other heroes at odds with one another. In a storyline that reverberated throughout the comic book world, the death of Captain America at the hands of a sniper still has superheroes and fans alike grieving the loss of this long-time favorite character and symbol of good.
