About Buddha

Born Siddhartha Gautama in 563 B.C. to royalty in India, this prince would grow up to be one of the most reknowned and respected spiritual leaders of all time. Protected from the harsh realities and suffering outside the palace walls by his father, the man who would become Buddha -- or "Enlightened One" -- discovered suffering when he was 29 and ventured into the world. Moved by what he saw, he embarked upon a ministry, gathering followers to his peaceful philosophy and Four Noble Truths.
