During the 17th century, Buccaneers sailed the Caribbean, seeking out the French and Spanish traders who crossed their "turf." Plundering their ships for riches of gold and anything else they could get their hands on, some buccaneers were actually sanctioned by England during that period as a way to deplete their rival, Spain's coffers. They often received a "letter of marque" which was protection by the English crown. One of the most famous Buccaneers was the Frenchman, Daniel Montbars who earned his nickname "The Exterminator" due to the high number of Spanish ships he had destroyed.

Dressing up as a Buccaneer

Put the "buc" in "swashbuckle" with a Buccaneer costume. A classier way of saying "pirate," several styles are available for your land-lubbing and sea-faring costume adventures.
