About Bride Groom

Looking to be married… or perhaps you are part of the wedding ceremony? At Halloween and for costume parties the bride and groom are two of the most popular couples costumes. There are even numerous costumes from period wedding gear to horror flick appearances. The bride groom or bridegroom refers to a man who is going to be married or has recently been married. So any groom can be referred to as the bride groom. The term bridegroom comes from around 1000 AD, perhaps even earlier. We do know it was a popular term in the Middle Ages and has been used by many cultures including Dutch, Celtic and others. Eventually the “bride” came off of groom and folks began calling a man to be married or just married the groom. Goth history shows that bride’s lord was used rather than bridegroom, but had the same meaning. So if you are going to be married, even for a party appearance you may consider bridegroom as part of your terminology.

Dressing up as Bride Groom

You can be ghoulish, contemporary, or even a Renaissance bride groom at your next costume party. Allow your whimsy to show up even with this half of the couple’s costume. Bride Groom’s and the bride are extremely popular for a couple’s look. If you want to be a dead groom or a Hillbilly Honeymoon Groom you have those options. For the dead groom a white tuxedo complete with black dress shoes, top hat, and cane will provide the right look. A Hillbilly costume provides you with jean coveralls, work boots, a top hat, and a tee shirt or muscle shirt. Course you might have to also add a little straw or other hillbilly accessories to the costume like missing teeth.
