About Boat

In the traditional sense of the term- boat means a watercraft that is designed to float or plane through the water. Boats come in a variety of shapes and sizes. You have tug boats, whale boats, motor boats, ships, freighters, steam boats, and ferry boats. However, when discussing costumes we are talking less about the actual watercraft and more about the clothing personnel on the boats would wear. Depending on the boat you will have a Captain, Sailor, Bartender, Cruise Director, and Cabin Boy. A boat’s personnel are going to help run it. For smaller boats you usually just have one or two people like the mate and Captain. A cruise ship is going to need more than fifty people to run the boat, be hosts, clean the rooms, etc.

Dressing up as Boat

For the really imaginative you could design a create costume like a Tug Boat, say the one used in a Mickey Mouse cartoon. For this you would probably want to use cardboard and fabric to create the boat shape that will sit on your waist. For all other costumes you have plenty in children’s up to adult sizes. You just have to decide where you want to be on the personnel ladder. For example a captain costume means you are in charge. You might choose Captain Sparrow or Captain Hook with the tricorn hat, overcoat, period clothing and swashbuckler look. Another choice is the Navy sailor uniform, which would require white with a blue stripe cotton pants and a shirt to match.
