About Bernard Madoff

Bernard "Bernie" Madoff was born on April 29, 1938 and has achieved infamy for his involvement in one of the largest Ponzi scams of the century and "the largest investor fraud ever committed by a single person." A former chairman of the NASDAQ stock exchange and a founder of his own Wall St. investment firm, Madoff swindled thousands of high profile investors (including actor Kevin Bacon) to the tune of $65 billion dollars. On March 12, 2009, he plead guilty to 11 different counts against him and may face up to 150 years in prison in addition to billions of dollars in restitution upon his sentencing.
