About Beer Maiden

A beer maiden or beer wench is a term describing females in a bartender or serving position where alcohol, specifically beer, is involved. Generally the stereotypical beer maiden will be dressed in a dirndl. A dirndl is the traditional outfit of Germany, Switzerland, and other Germanic countries of Europe. The outfit from the children’s story Hansel and {Gretel] also was a dirndl. The dirndl is the female outfit which is often paired with lederhosen from the men. A beer maiden can be any one who serves alcohol.

Dressing up as Beer Maiden

A beer maiden costume is most usually short and revealing of the woman’s figure. A dirndl as mentioned above usually has a peasant blouse with a corset or bustier over it to accentuate the waist. The skirt of the dress is going to be mid thigh in length, with a short petticoat underneath to make the skirt flair out. To complete the costume a single braid or two braids would be needed, as well as knee high socks and clogs.
