About Beauty and the Beast

Although Disney has made Beauty and the Beast one of the most popular fairy tales in history they were not the first to create the story. The first published version of Beauty and the Beast was done by Madame Gabrielle Suzanna Barbot de Villeneuve in 1740. However the story is even older than that. The tale of Beauty and the Beast had already been around for a couple of centuries at this point and passed along as a traditional story to children. There have been many adaptations for the book as well as the television options. In fact in the 80’s there was a television show called Beauty and the Beast set in modern times with Linda Hamilton as Beauty. In 1991 Beauty and the Beast was first released as the Disney animated classic.

Dressing up as Beauty and the Beast

There are two costumes associated with Beauty and the Beast that are most popular. There is Belle in her yellow ballgown and then there is the Beast. The beast can be seen as a lion type beast in a tuxedo or as he is in the film in raggedy clothing. To dress up as Belle there are plenty of different accessories from slipper shoes to white gloves and a crown. The costumes available online will fit children to adults.
