About Batman

As one of publishing house DC Comics' "Big Three" superheroes, Batman stands alongside Superman and Wonder Woman as one of the flagship titles. The creation of artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, Batman first burst upon the Gotham City scene in 1939 in "Detective Comics." Batman is the altar ego of billionaire playboy, Bruce Wayne. The Caped Crusader adopted his vigilante/detective secret identity as a result of his wealthy parents having been murdered when Bruce was a boy. Raised by his butler Alfred, Wayne vowed to avenge his parents' deaths and take on crime in Gotham City. Part of what makes Batman so unique is that, unlike most of his comic book contemporaries, he doesn't have super powers. Instead, he relies upon his strength and scientific leanings, inventing gadgets and using his wealth to help him create devices to help him battle crime.

Dressing up as Batman

Available in sizes to fit adults and children, Batman costumes are a popular item, hot on the heels of the mega-hit movie, The Dark Knight. Wear a full, latex Batman mask with a hood with ears, covering most of your face with the exception of your mouth. Opt for an all-black costume, similar to the one Christian Bale wore in the recent films or go for a more classic, blue-and-grey costume as portrayed in the comics.

And just WHERE does he get all those toys? Accessorize your costume with a number of Bat Gadgets like the Batman grappling hook or utility belt for a fun feature.

For a great couples' costume look, bring either Catwoman or Poison Ivy on your arm... Or grab a friend to dress up as the Joker!
