About Barbie
Barbie’s first appearance in toy stores was in 1959. The Barbie doll was and is produced by Mattel, Inc. Ruth Handler was the creator of Barbie. Her inspiration came from a German doll known as Bild Lilli. Barbie has been the most successful doll on the market for the last 50 years, despite competition from Bratz or even Cabbage Patch Kids. The first Barbie doll was dressed in a black and white zebra swimsuit with a top knot ponytail. The doll was available as blonde or brunette. Barbie also has a few other friends to go along with the dolls, most notably Ken. Over the years the dolls have been based on careers such as art teacher, Spanish teacher, dentist, US Army, and flight attendant. Most of Barbie’s outfits extend from an actual company as there is even a See’s Candy cashier as well as a McDonald’s cashier.
Dressing up as Barbie
Dressing up as Barbie will depend on your wishes. As we mentioned above you have many careers to choose from regarding costumes. The most popular of the earlier dolls was the flight attendant and career woman. You can also dress in a wedding gown with the Barbie look. The costumes are available in children’s to adult sizes. Bratz, Pilots, Air Force, Astronaut and other costumes will lend more ideas to dressing up as Barbie for your next costume party. Dressing up as Barbie can also come from the many movies she has recently starred in. Ken makes a wonderful accompaniment if there are couples.
