A ballerina is a girl or woman who is trained in the dance form known as ballet. She is poised and graceful, and always wears a leotard or dance costume that ends with a fluffy tulle skirt known as a tutu. The tutu can be short or long, as per the style of ballet she is performing or the role. Some of the most famous prima ballerinas (principal soloists with a ballet company) were Alicia Alonso of Cuba and Margot Fonteyn of England. Some of the most famous ballerinas of all time who were never awarded the title of "Prima Ballerina" include the Russian dancer, Anna Pavlova and Maria Tallchief, who is of Native American descent.
