About Avatar

Avatar is an animated American series that borrows heavily from anime styling, as well as legends of Japan, China, India, and the Western world to create its complex storyline. One of the main characters is Aang, a 12-year old who learns he is an Avatar, or human incarnation of a deity or hero. Worried as to whether or not he can live up to the responsibility, he goes off and finds himself frozen in an ice storm, awakining 100 years later. He encounters other people who can "bend" the elements much like himself, an Airbender, meeting Firebenders and Earthbenders, as well. The show uses movements of several styles of martial arts to create the distinct movements of these Avatar's skills. The animated series is now being made into a live action film directed by M. Knight Shayamalan.

Dressing up as Avatar

Costume yourself in detailed cosplay costumes based on the cartoon and movie version of Avatar. Dress as Aang, the Last Airbender with a costume featuring a longsleeved black tunic with grey sleeves, trimmed with a red mandarin collar and piping down the front. Also included is a matching read headband and a pair of charcoal grey knee breeches. Ladies may want to dress as the blind Earthbender, {Toph Bei Fong who helps teach Aang the ways of Earthbenders. The Toph cosplay costume includes a kelly green knee-length dress with white apron. Also included are matching green ankle and wrist guards. Accessorize with a black anime-style wig to complete your look.

How to make a Neytiri from "Avatar" Na'vi costume and makeup

James Cameron's sci-fi epic, "Avatar" has been considered a phenomenon. Although no official "Avatar" costumes have been released yet, you can still put together your own look with makeup, a wig and some accessories to become one of the Na'vi. I made this costume from clothes I found at a thrift store. I used a large yellow shirt and tightened the sleeves, an orange poncho that was cut to right style, a pair of white shorts dyed yellow and cut to fit, red sweatpants, red socks, and some extra orange fabric to make the accessories. My head really is shaved and I painted an arrow on it. My roommate made a Katara costume to go with mine.  read more »
