About Athena

In ancient Greek legend, Athena was the goddess of wisdom, as well as a warrior goddess who was as valiant in battle as she was wise. She was born having sprung from the head of Zeus, the King of the Gods himself, not born of a woman. The Greek city of Athens is named for her.

It was fortuitous for many ancient Greek heroes to curry favor with Athena, as she was a powerful ally to have. While she often assisted her favorite humans and heroes in battle, one of Athena's sacred symbols was the olive branch, a sign of peace. While fighting may have been a neccessary evil, military strategy and the intelligence to escape with as many lives intact was a trait admired by Athena.
