Believed to have been born of the sea and the sea's foam itself, Aphrodite is often depicted as rising from the ocean on a giant clamshell. Under her Roman name, Venus, Aphrodite inspired the classical painter Botticelli with his famous work, "The Birth of Venus."

Also known as the Goddess of Beauty, Aphrodite used her feminine wiles to make her way through the ranks of many a Greek god, including the God of War Ares among her heavenly, Olympian hook-ups.
