About Annie

"Annie" is the title character of a Broadway musical based off of Harold Gray's comic strip, "Little Orphan Annie" which made its debut in 1924. Annie was an orphaned girl with red hair and white, circular eyes who wore a red dress and frequently exclaimed "Leapin' lizards!" Her best friend was her dog named Sandy. She and Sandy got into many adventures and were adopted by the wealthy Daddy Warbucks after living "A Hard-Knock Life" at mean Miss Hannigan's orphanage. The most well-known song from the musical "Annie" is "The Sun'll Come Out Tomorrow," which reflects Annie's cheery, optimistic look on life. (Incidentally, Little Orphan Annie was also a radio show, the very same show that Ralphie was a fan of in the film "A Christmas Story.")

Dressing up as Annie

Betcha bottom dollar that tomorrow... you can dress up as the carrot-topped orphan, Annie! Start with the Annie wig, a short wig of tightly wound orange-red curls perfectly sized to fit children. The wig itself is sold separately, but a different, more brightly colored red version comes with the Annie costume set featuring a red dress with a white collar and trim on the sleeves and belt. Accessorize with white ankle socks and a pair of black mary janes in girls' sizes. Grab a stuffed dog (or a real one!) to stand in as your best friend, Sandy. Leapin' lizards!
