About Animal Planet

Animal Planet is an American Television station. The station first began broadcasting in 1996 as a distribution of Discovery Communications. They launched a high-definition channel in 2007. Animal Planet provides a number of programs based solely on animals. Recent shows include Merrkat Manor and Orangutan Island which take a look at family and social dynamics of the two species. The newer shows are more about story telling rather than completely educational shows. By watching Meerkat Manor viewers are able to see what happens to the family on a set basis rather than seeing the family one time and discussing research about the animals. Animal Planet also has a stunt program called the Puppy Bowl. Current shows on the channel are A Lion Called Christian, America’s Cutest Dog, Animal Armageddon, Animal Cops, Animal Planet Talent, Monsters Inside me, Most Extreme, and Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom. Some shows are still more educational rather than the family story you get with Meerkat Manor.

Dressing up as Animal Planet

Most Animal Planet costumes are only for infants up to young children.
