About Ace Frehley

Paul "Ace" Frehley was the original guitarist for Kiss whose character/makeup design was the "Space Ace," with white facepaint accented with a metallic silver makeup mask around his eyes and black lipstick. Frehley teamed up with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley in the group "Wicked Lester" before they changed the band's name to Kiss. Frehley wrote the song "Cold Gin" on the band's early material, but due to his lack of confidence in his singing abilities, Gene Simmons sang the song. Frehley finally got to sing solo on the Kiss songs "Shock Me" (based on his near-electroction onstage) and on his 1978 solo album with "Back in the New York Groove." Frehley was known for his live guitar theatrics which included a smoking guitar and a flying "rocket" guitar. He left Kiss in 1982 and was replaced by Vinnie Vincent. Frehley returned for a time during one of Kiss' many farewell tours. He is currently doing solo work.
