About Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He was born in 1809 and died in 1865. Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in April of 1865 while he was at the theater. Abraham Lincoln was known most for his issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation and his Gettysburg Address. Abraham Lincoln was very important to the civil war, especially with the efforts of abolishing slavery in the last years of the war. His early life was spent in a one room log cabin in Spring Farm Kentucky. Abraham Lincoln was for the most part self educated. His family life was difficult so according to history he had about 18 months of formal schooling. When he was 22 he left his family to pursue his own life eventually getting a job on the Sangamon River. At age 23 Lincoln began his political career though he didn’t gain popularity until 1834 in Illinois.
