About 50s Poodle Skirts

A staple of any self-respecting "teenager in love" from the 1950s, poodle skirts were all the rage at the sock hop or malt shoppe. With an A-line flared shape, most poodle skirts of the day hit slightly below the knee and were decoarated on the front with an embroidered or embellishment type poodle, usually with the poodle's "leash" (perhaps a chain or sequins), suspended from the belt of the skirt. Casual yet formal enough to wear to school, these novelty-style skirts could also be worn to dances and other social events, clustered around a vintage jukebox.

Dressing up with Poodle Skirts

When dressing up in 50s style, for most girls -- and even some guys -- a poodle skirt in a bright color with either a black or white poodle on the front of it is your answer for a cute costume! Pair it up with a pair of saddle shoes and cuffed, lacy anklets to look like bobby socks.
