1960s Costume Ideas

About the '60s

The decade that saw desegregation, John F. Kennedy, Vietnam, and Woodstock, the 1960s were a decade that brimmed with change. Initially hopeful with the election of young, visionary John F. Kennedy elected to the Presidential office and his tragic assassination, eventually, the '60s spiraled into a decade of protest with further entrenchment of the American military in Vietnam and protest music that brought prominence to the likes of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. Fortunately, there was a bit of mirth in the form of Rowan and Martin's ground-breaking weekly comedy show, "Laugh-In," to point out the humor amid all sorts of the decade's changes and turmoil.

Dressing like '60s

Show some social consciousness with a hippie costume, decking yourself out in a long, flowing wig, some love beads, and bellbottoms. Or, take a different route with a brightly colored Mod Queen outfit complete with a psychedelic-printed dress, white go-go boots, and a towering beehive wig. Play it political with a {John F. Kennedy mask} and go as a couple as former First Lady, Jackie Kennedy Onassis with a Jackie O costume with her signature bubble cut wig and pink suit with pillbox hat.
