Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li – Movie and Costumes!
Kicking its way into theatres in the early part of 2009 is Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li. This will be the second live action film based on Capcom’s blockbuster video game franchise, the first one made in 1994 and starring the late Raul Julia as the villainous M. Bison. This new film does not appear to have any links in continuity to the first film, other than the fact that it’s based off of the game.
A lot of newer characters are to be featured in the film alongside veteran Street Fighters. Chun Li will be played by Smallville’s Kristin Kreuk and M. Bison is played by Neal McDonough. Other actors rounding out the cast include Academy Award nominee Michael Clark Duncan, Robin Shou (Liu Kang from the Mortal Kombat films), and Chris Klein (American Pie). The story follows Interpol agent Chun Li’s quest to avenge her father’s death at the hands of Bison.
The film is due in theatres February 27, 2009 and you can check out production stills and more info on the film here.
Gamers will no doubt be excited to see what the costumes will be like and how faithful the movie will be to the iconic imagery presented in the games. If you’re looking to head to theatres in costume or want to show some love for the Street Fighter franchise at the next gamer convention or Comic Con you attend, tons of Street Fighter costumes are available. While not too many photos have leaked about Chun Li’s look, you can still dress up in her blue and white game attire with this Chun Li costume. Modify costumes for old favorites like Ken and Ryu to create costumes for newer characters featured in the film, such as Gen, Chun Li’s mentor.
