tweedle dum

The portly twins Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum first appear in the sequel to "Alice in Wonderland", which is titled "Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There." Both books were written by Louis Carroll. They are also the subject of an English nursery rhyme. Although they are not included in the first book "Alice in Wonderland", Walt Disney chose to include them in his movie of the same name.

If you have or are twins, it's fun to wear Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum costumes. Since they're identical twins, the instructions are the same. You will need:

  • A pair of large red pants with an elastic waist (bright-red sweat pants will work, especially if they are of nylon-type material.)

  • A large yellow long-sleeve shirt.

  • A white short-sleeved shirt with pointed collars.

  • A light-blue bow tie.

  • A red "beanie"-style cap with a yellow flag on top.

  • A large bright-orange clown wig.

  • Pillows for stuffing.

Instructions:

  1. Put on the sweatpants and the WHITE shirt. Stand the collar up so that it will show above the yellow shirt.

  2. Now, put the YELLOW shirt on over the white shirt. You only want the collar part of the white shirt to show, so adjust as needed.

  3. Put on the orange wig, then put the beanie on. You may need to fasten the beanie to the wig with glue or pins. Make sure plenty of hair can be seen around the beanie.

  4. If you were unable to find a red "beanie", it's simple to make one. Simply find a red baseball cap that is too small for your head. Cut off the brim, and stick a yellow flag that you've made from a toothpick and yellow triangular piece of paper in the very top of the hat.

You want the clothes to be large so you can stuff them to resemble the twins' portliness. Also, you might want to make a few subtle differences in Tweedle Dum's costume, so that others will know who is who. For example, add black suspenders to yourTweedle Dum costume.
