Marvel’s latest film: The Punisher: War Zone
Iron Man was red-hot. Robert Downey, Jr.’s performance as Tony Stark and his titular alter-ego made comic fans and film critics alike take Marvel comics’ film division seriously. Hulk 2, while not as good as Iron Man, still was a vast improvement over the first Hulk film.
Now, it’s up to Marvel’s newest movie to see if that quality streak can continue. Punisher: War Zone is the sequel to 2004’s Punisher movie hitting theatres on December 5th, 2008.
Receiving considerably less hype than its predecessor, this new movie features HBO’s Rome’s Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle, the Punisher, taking over for Thomas Jane who played the role in the 2004 film. Castle, whose entire family was gunned down by mobsters has dedicated his hollow life to ruthlessly taking out criminals wherever he roams. With no super powers, the Punisher relies on his military training and resourcefulness to carry out his brand of justice.
This latest film has the Punisher taking on a mob boss he disfigured who assumes the new name of “Jigsaw.” At the same time, Castle has to avoid the FBI task force set to take him out. Check out the trailer for the film here.
If you’re a die-hard fan of the Punisher comics, head to a screening wearing your favorite t-shirt, or take it a step further by dressing the part with a Punisher costume featuring his emblematic skull on the front of his gear. Pick up some black spray-in hair coloring to really get the look down.
The new Punisher look for the film features a much more leather-heavy style. Maybe if this film is successful, there may be some new, War Zone-inspired costumes on the way!
