How to Make a Santa Gnome Costume
Santa is one of the more important figures at Christmas time, especially for children. This year if you are tired of the same ole Santa look consider creating a Santa Gnome. Gnomes have become more popular in recent years. It could be Harry Potter books talking about garden gnomes or simply the Travolocity Gnome we see on our televisions. Whatever the reason why not combine two very popular costumes into one that is both festive and fun.
*Red Pointed Hat
*White Fake Beard
*Black belt with gold buckle
Step 1: Joann Fabrics and Michaels are two arts and craft stores found in most cities. Both of these sites can also be found online. If you need some craft supplies try www.joann.com or www.discountfabric.com. There are numerous other sites providing you with arts and craft supplies as well.
Step 2: Once you have found the necessary fabric, thread, and cotton you will begin creating your Santa suit. The typical Gnome wears a long tunic covering both the upper and lower body. So your red fabric should be less like Santa’s red jacket and more like a tunic. Refer to our arts and crafts sites for patterns if you need one. From the pattern create the tunic with pockets. With the tunic you can place cotton on the neck, sleeves, pocket rims, and around as trim on the bottom of the tunic.
Step 3: In this next step you will need to find a thick black belt with gold buckle. This will wrap around the waist of your “_ìGnome”¬ù body to hold the tunic in place.
Step 4: If you cannot find the conical Gnome hat consider making your own out of the red fabric. Pipe cleaners can be used to make the hat stiff and pointed. Too truly make the hat Santa like add cotton around the rim and at the very top. The top could also have a gold bell on it.
Step 5: Your Elf shoes can be brown, green or red. It is your choice, they just need to be pointed at the toes with a slight curl.
Step 6: The last step is getting your Santa beard in place. After the beard is attached you are ready to take Mrs. Claus to the party!
