How to make a Paul Blart: Mall Cop costume

The “King of Queens,” Kevin James makes it to the big screen in the comedy “Paul Blart: Mall Cop.” If you’ve been to any shopping center, you’ve seen one of these guys, also not-so-affectionately referred to as “rent-a-cops” enforcing the law of the mall. In the film, James plays an overweight cop who takes his job very seriously and is finally called upon to save the day… And his mall!!

You can pay homage to mall cops everywhere with this easy to make DIY costume!

  • Short sleeved white dress shirt

  • Black necktie

  • Black dress pants

  • Black belt

  • Black nylon socks

  • Black shoes

  • Tie clip

  • Walkie Talkie

  • Badge

  • American Flag Iron On Patch

  • Police Badge Iron On Patch

  • Segway or scooter (OPTIONAL)

  • Pillow (for stuffing) OR fake belly

  • Fake mustache

Putting together your Paul Blart Mall Cop costume

Step 1: Get your Mall Cop regalia together and pick up a simple, short-sleeved white button-down shirt.

Step 2: Get some patches to adhere to the sleeves of your shirt. You can easily find iron on patches of the American flag to go on one sleeve and a police-style badge/crest patch for your other sleeve. No sewing is required with iron ons.

Step 3: If you’re not suitably stout like Paul Blart himself, pad your stomach with a fake belly or stuff it with a small pillow before putting on your shirt and necktie.

Step 4: Add the small tie clip to your neck tie and then pin on your badge to the breast pocket of your shirt.

Step 5: Grab your walkie talkie and attach it to your belt or to your shirt. If you can’t find a small walkie-talkie that looks like Paul Blarts, you can also attach a phone or iPod charger in black to the shoulder of your shirt for a similar look.

Step 6: Pull on your black pants flouncing out your fake belly over the top of them and belting everything in place.

Step 7: Either draw on or adhere a fake mustache in black.

Step 8: Put on your regulation black nylon socks and shoes before hopping on your (optional) Segway or scooter and preparing to dish out mall justice!
