How to make a Hammy costume?
Hammy is the excitable squirrel in Over the Hedge, making it a perfect child’s costume for this year. If you are on a budget or just love to make your own costumes we have a couple of suggestions below on how to make Hammy. You can make Hammy a couple of ways, but we have outlined the most fun.
##Things you will need:##
* Light brown material
* White material
* Dark brown material
* Fleece or fake fur
Step 1: To begin with Hammy you need a sewing machine and pattern. The pattern should be for any costume suit that will fit your child. You just want the main body. The material you use should be warm, so fleece, heavy cotton, or something along those lines will do. You need to cut out the pattern for the main body and then use the light brown material. You will also need a white belly, so a circular or oval piece for the front is needed.
Step 2: Once you have the main body you can start on the accessories. The tail should be formed like a squirrel tail with fuzzy material, bunting and a definite curl. Pipe cleaners or metal will help you get the formation you need.
Step 3: In this step you need to make the hands and feet. The dark brown material will help you. You may also want to pick up some elastic for the feet to wrap it around the shoes. This will keep the feet on top of the shoes for a better look.
Step 4: Hammy’s face can be recreated using materials mentioned above, but if you don’t feel up to the talent you should be able to find a Hammy mask to cover your child’s face for the costume. You can also make a hood out of the face for a warmer costume.
