Each year there are one of two turkey costumes at Thanksgiving. You either have the Turkey in which your body is slightly exposed along the long red neck or you have the Turkey Mascot. It can seem pretty boring to have the same old turkey available at Thanksgiving. That is why this year I decided to come up with a new look that would be both funny and still work as a Thanksgiving costume.
Not everyone loves clowns. Some people have a fear of them, but that is a small minority, so what better way to make a funny Turkey than to make it a Clown Turkey. Below you will find the information you need to Turkey up your Clown!
Step 1: To begin with our Clown Turkey you need the right look. You will want to start out with your clown outfit. Many clowns have their own personality, so you might already have a clown costume you can work into your turkey look. If you do not begin with oversized clown pants. The pants should be autumn in color meaning red, brown, orange, or a variation of all three. The typical Turkey has red legs.
Step 2: The shirt can be regular sized, oversized, or something very silly. Even an “I Brake for Turkey’s” or “Why Did the Turkey Cross to the Other Side of the Road” shirt will work. You will want it to be slightly crazy with autumn colors to enhance the look.
Step 3: As always a silly clown needs some silly shoes. The best shoes are those that are oversized and red, but really any clown shoe will do. If you can find a clown shoe in the shape of a Turkey foot that would be superb. You could also make this type of shoe from fabric you get at www.joann.com or www.discountfabric.com.
Step 4: Now that you have the clown we must work on that turkey. To begin you will need the red, brown, and orange fabric or red and brown fabric you bought. You will want to make feathers out of the material. Use the picture above or find another that provides you with a look at a turkey’s feather set up. This will go on the rear of your clown costume.
Step 5: Next you will need the face and head of a turkey. Take the fabric and create the gobbler and the top tufts of feathers. You can make a hood out of the fabric.
Step 6: Lastly you need the face makeup. You will probably want brown to help create the turkey face, with a little silliness worked in like an exaggerated smile?
If you really want to go all out you might have a target with a fake arrow on your chest.
