How to make an Elf costume?

Costumes are for several times a year. We have Halloween parties, Christmas, costume parties, and even Carnival. Elves make great costumes for children and even some adults. For your next costume party you might find the instructions and materials below helpful in creating your Elf look.

Things you will need:

• Candy Cane stripped leggings
• Green material
• Red sash
• Gold belt buckle
• Elf shoes
• Elf ears
• Bow tie
• Elf hat

Instructions:

Step 1: Making a costume from scratch typically means you purchase the materials you need, patterns, and use your sewing machine. If you like this method you will need to find the red and white stripped fabric to make the leggings with. You can also buy candy cane stripped socks if you can’t find leggings.

Step 2: To complete the main body of the costume you will need to fashion a tunic. The tunic can be a simple square line at the neck and waist, with long sleeves or you can get more creative.

Step 3: The red sash is going to be the belt around the Elf waist. The red fabric should be rather stiff, but if you can’t find a stiff red fabric they do make a material that will help you. This material can make the sash stiffer and most fabric stores will have it. To finish the belt you need a large gold belt buckle. This can be fashioned from material or even a cardboard box with gold paint.

Step 4: Chances are unless you purchase the Elf style shoes from a costume store, you will have to take green material and make your own. There are patterns to be found on the internet and in stores to help you fashion the curled toed slip on. You can also fashion them to go over your walking shoe, like a cover.

Step 5: The bow tie is where your creative juices can flow even more. You have a choice in making a large bow tie, string bow tie, or even a traditional styled bow tie.

Step 6: The last step will encompass both the hat and Elf ears. You will most likely have to buy the ears, unless you have theatre putty and talent to create them. The ears can be attached directly to the hat for more comfort. The hat is going to be a stocking cap. The hat will be at least shoulder length and come to a narrow point with a fuzzy ball on the end. The hat can be a single color or match the leggings you’re wearing.
