How to make The Dude (The Big Lebowski) Costume

The ultimate slacker, Jeffrey Lebowski is known simply as "The Dude" by his friends and acquaintances -- "El Duderino" if you're not into the whole brevity thing. Played by actor Jeff Bridges, in a case of mistaken identity the Dude is whisked into a circle of high rollers who want him to find the "kidnapped" wife of a millionaire. All The Dude wants to do is chill out, drink White Russians, stay unemployed, and listen to Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Show your love for "The Big Lebowski" with a homemade Dude costume that's fun and simple to make! The Dude abides! As a fun fact, The Dude's wardrobe actually came from actor Jeff Bridge's own closet.

Things You'll Need

  • Shoulder length brown/grey wig
  • Goatee and spirit gum to adhere it
  • Pair of black sunglasses
  • White v-neck t-shirt
  • Tan bathrobe
  • Pair of baggy flannel shorts
  • Jelly slides (or any slip-on {men's sandal} shoe

OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES * Bowling Ball * Carton of milk * Glass filled with a "caucasian"

Putting together your The Dude / Big Lebowski Costume

Step 1: Put on your shoulder-length wig of wavy brown hair. If you can't find one with bits of grey in it, add a light bit of White Out to a few strands on the wig for an aged effect.

Step 2: Adhere the goatee to your face with spirit gum. If you can't find one with grey in it, use a little bit of White Out on a few hairs here and there to complete the look.

Step 3: Put on the white v-neck t-shirt, baggy flannel shorts that look like boxers, jelly slides, and swing on the ol' bathrobe.

Step 4: Pick up some fun, optional accessories to give your costume the ultimate Lebowski touch. Pick up a bowling ball, a milk carton (you get bonus points for making a "Ralph's" decal and putting it on there!), or a high ball glass with a "Caucasian" (The Dude's favorite drink) or a non-alcoholic substitute, like chocolate milk with ice cubes.

Step 5: Put on your shades and get ready to party! Break out the Creedence!
