Help with Violet's Costume!? "Blueberry" scene....(Willy Wonka musical)
Hi!
Does anyone have ideas on how to have Violet "inflate" like a blueberry on stage? Any website ideas for products to use (vests, etc.?)
We are not sure how to pull this off! If you have done Willy Wonka before, or have a suggestion, please reply!!

I am directing wonka now. we are using the same idea with the blow up costume but we are putting it underneath her regular costume and will plug it in onstage so she blows up in front of everyone. When it is time to deflate she will just pull the plug and will deflate in front of the audience with just a purple spot on her. In the song she really does not have alot of time. Maybe 20 seconds to change into a blueberry. I have the cast crowd around her and put blue on her face and put a blue wig on her while she is blowing up. Then they all back up and we see her changed......I hope it works.

I was a director for a kids production of willy wonka. and for violets scene we had her go behind a wall and step into a blowup witch costume that is sold at walmart around ever halloween. we spray painted the whole thing blue and it inflates in about 20 seconds. so by the time she walked back out she was HUGE! its was really great then when seh came back out with ommpa lomppas we just turned the fan off inside and squeezed all the air out of it so she look really deflated like she had popped. and we put blue junk on her hair . it was really cute and easy!
