I am looking for an Ursula costume this halloween season. My 4 yr. old daughter is going to be Ariel, my 2 yr. old son is going to be Flounder, my husband is going to be King Triton, my brother is going to be Prince Eric and that just leaves me with no costume. Any ideas?! :D

I'm doing Ursula too!! There ar NO costumes that are good...
The best I've seen are DIY, so here's what I'm doing:

Take a strapless BLACK DRESS (knee length or shorter [can't be too long, so that you can see your tentacles])
If you want to be bulky like ursula, you might need to stuff it.
For the LEGS, I found those furry attatchable CAT TAILS, (extra long) and they work perfectly b/c they have wire in them already.
Get 8 CAT TAILS (about $5 ea. @ party city) and sew or glue them to the inside bottom edge of your dress from underneath.
To make them look like TENTACLES, glue some donut shaped beads, or those big flat sequins to one side of each, and then bend them different ways ( so that you don't look like a spider!) You could use fishing line to attach two to your wrists, so they move with your arms.
You can paint yourself purple, or not... I'm not going to.
For your legs (since they'll be exposed) you could leave them, or get some BLUE LEGGINGS or opaque stockings and glue some starfish, or sandollars to them (nothing to heavy) or just wear a pair of FISHNETS over that (FISH nets- for the nautical theme)
HAIR- baby powder makes hair look gray or white, depending on how much you use, & you can find wigs or hair spray paint.
And her LIPS are RED, EYES are BLUE, Eyebrows are drawn on high.

Hope this helps!

Following the very good idea of a stuffed strapless black dress above, you can keep the long skirts and:

1) apply 8 even thin twistable rods of any material on the inside of the skirts.
2)cut up the skirts into 8 even parts, keeping the rods as a guideline for keeping them in the centre of each piece.
3)cover the inside of each part with cotton or any other fluffy material.
4)sew a purple-coloured cloth on top of the fluff-covered rods.
5)apply sequins of various purples, and you have the tentacles complete with suckers!

put on black pantyhose or tights, and wear a pair of black boots/shoes etc..., and you have a full Ursula black octopus costume!

Also, a very interesting idea I got from the Broadway version, you can also apply a thin see-through black piece of cloth between each tentacle, and twist the ends abit to be curled, giving it a more octopus-like tentacle look!

hope you find this useful!
