To make the "jacket"-type look that some of the dwarfs have, you can use oversized sweatshirts with actual buttons, or felt-covered ones sewn down the middle. I'd get the sweatshirt several sizes larger than what you normally wear, which might be great for "stuffing" with a pillow.

To give it some extra flavor, you can use fabric paint or puffy paint from the craft store to draw a "line" down the middle, connecting the buttons to look like the closure of a jacket. Then you can add your own belt or sew on a brightly colored felt or fabric belt... Or even use a piece of rope to add around your waist for the belt.

You can also get a pair of sweatpants in a contrasting color and tuck the sweats into a pair of boots. If you want, you can add a large pair of colorful socks over the top of the boots. (Some stores sell "Slipper Socks" instead of bedroom slippers. They usually have traction pads on the bottom, too.) If you want to add that upturned, curly-toe thing to the boots, you can stuff the toe of the sock with newspaper wound around a long pipe cleaner and use the pipe cleaner inside to give it that "curly toe" effect.

Hope that helps a bit!
