Countdown to Costumes and Comic Con

The countdown is on!Ǭ† The biggest and best-known Comic Convention is only months away.Ǭ† For its 39th year, the San Diego Comic Con is bringing together fans and notable faces in the world of comics, sci-fi, television, movies, and other spheres of popular culture for three days.Ǭ† With Preview Night on July 23rd, and the convention itself running from July 24th through the 27th, the convention usually garners extensive coverage in print and even on the G4 television network.Ǭ† There are usually tons of exhibits on display pertaining to the latest toy releases from notable franchises and staffed by attractive “booth girls,” usually decked out in costumes similar to the video games or franchises they’re representing._Ǭ†

While all of the famous artists and previews of upcoming comic- or sci-fi-related films are a big reason for attending, one of the main highlights in addition to the displays are the costumed attendees.Ǭ† Every year, fans in attendance deck themselves out in costumes they have either purchased, or for those talented enough, have made themselves.Ǭ†

The fan costumes vary from year to year, but certain themes are always prevalent.Ǭ† Star Wars never goes out of style.Ǭ† Plus, with the new Abrams-helmed Star Trek film in the works, Trekkies should be out in full force!_Ǭ†

Traditional cosplay costumes zeroing in on anime and manga costumes are also popular, as are super hero costumes from the Marvel and DC Universes._Ǭ†
