Look to Glee for KISS-able and Gaga-licious costume ideas!

I don't know about you, but the new summer season of television has been boring me to tears! And trust me, at night, all I want to do is sit in a nice, air conditioned room and veg out! Okay, I'd love to throw a frosty costume party for a bunch of my friends, too, but how do you combine the two.

Then it hit me.

I hadn't gotten caught up completely with "Glee," a show several friends got me hooked on. You know how it is. You get roped into old viewing patterns and don't remember what time certain shows are on. So, I traipsed on over to Hulu.com and what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a bunch of Glee episodes ready to stream and watch on the computer! One episode in particular, "Theatricality," (that you can watch on line) combined great music and great costumes inspired by two of my favorite musical acts: Kiss and Lady Gaga.

I've seen both in concert and believe me, they both have the splashy costume thing down pat. They cover the visual and aural end of the live performance and are worth every penny to see them live.

Well, the "Glee" kids brought it in this episode, along with a ton of really well done costumes to run around wearing in the halls of McKinley High. The Glee girls were decked out in their finest Lady Gaga costumes -- including one made of bubbles and another featuring a dramatic purple wig.

The boys, on the other hand, rocked out wearing KISS costumes, singing the 1976 classic "Shout It Out Loud", representing each member of the original band. (I'm going to quibble here when Matt said he was "Ace Frehley's replacement" in the band. Actually, he was wearing the makeup of the drummer who replaced Peter Criss, Eric Carr whose KISS identity was "The Fox.") Still, Artie wearing moon boots and glasses in his wheelchair with his Ace Frehley costume was undoubtedly a highlight of the performance!

The only downside to this episode was that the cantankerous cheerleading coach, Sue Sylvester was nowhere to be found. However, that doesn't mean you can't interject some Cheerio spirit into your scene with a How to make a Sue Sylvester costume tutorial.

Nevertheless, "Glee" and this episode in particular are a great cure for the summertime blues. Think about throwing a viewing party for your friends in your (preferably air conditioned) place and getting dressed up with Lady Gaga or Kiss costumes!
